How do you keep the car cool enough for kids in summer traffic?

With school runs and afternoon activities, my family spends a lot of time in the car, even during the hottest months. Lately I've noticed that when we get stuck in traffic, the back seats don't stay as cool as the front, and the kids start complaining. I'm trying to figure out if this is normal or if my AC needs attention. I found a guide that focuses on maintaining optimal cabin temperature specifically in our climate, and it explained how things like a dirty condenser or a weak cooling fan can cause the AC to struggle at idle. It also mentioned simple maintenance like changing the cabin filter regularly, which I definitely forgot to do. For other parents out there, what are your tips for keeping the whole car comfortable during long summer drives, especially when traffic is heavy?
